Experiencing Cairns (pronounced "cans")

A one and a half hour trip on a doubled - hull catamaran out to two different sites on the Great Barrier Reef yesterday was the highlight so far.   We snorkeled both sites.  The color of the various corals and fish were amazing and I'm blown away by the diversity of God's creation.
We rested after getting back and went back out for a glass of wine (translate bottle :) ) and after a few wrong turns found Lake Street where our hostel is.  Earlier in our Aussie experience we had sworn off hosteling but this one after an initial room change has been great.
Today we are going to really explore the city (after doing some laundry), and hopefully make our plans to go to Daintree.
A very interesting sight we have encountered right in the middle of the city, is a colony of flying fox bats.  I will try to get a picture of them today. ..tho I find the smell in the area from their guana nauseating.   Google them for pictures and info...remarkable.  They are birthing their young right now.
